A Tesla with yellowing Daytime Running Lights, or half lit...it happens way to frequently and now it is all I see on 2016+ Model S's. So I decided to see if I could come up with a solution. I took a donated headlight and started to unbolt items from it until I found that it didnt get me anywhere. I then decided to try and drill some pilot holes to access the known issue of the LED unsoldering itself from the board (See Picture)
As you can see in the top picture of the board with the LED, all 4 LED’s are on the board. The lower board shows one missing LED, and that is the failure. This will cause the LED to not light leading to the yellowing appearance.
These arrows indicate the 4 locations of the LED boards. They project light towards each other, and as you can see in this image, the far right blue arrow shows an LED assembly that is out.
After giving up on the pilot holes, I decided to attempt to remove the front lens cover by heating it up in an oven, this was also unsuccessful. Finally, I had to resort to cutting the lens off to access everything. This is obviously something that cannot be done as it was unrepairable at this point. The only solution was to purchase new from Tesla and at $2000 per headlight, that was out of the question. So we acquired new genuine Tesla headlights. Now For Sale at ReelDealEV.com
