Tesla Space X CyberRocket DIY
This year, I created a NASA and Space X Mission Control-themed trunk or treat setup, centered around launching a Cybertruck—renamed the “CybeRocket”—into space! Here’s how it all came together:
Setting the Scene for Mission Control
I transformed wood, switches, indicator lights and an emergency stop button into a mini NASA Command Center. I added “a control screen” by attaching an iPad and indicator light visuals. To make the experience more interactive, I crafted a mix of switches and colorful lights giving kids a place to “activate” different stages of the launch.
Making the CybeRocket the Star
The Tesla Cybertruck was displayed in the center, decorated with metallic wings, a Little Tikes Toy Rocket and custom NASA themed light show to give it a Space-X Rocket look. This “CybeRocket” was the focus of our launch, with the kids counting down and watching it “take off” on their signal! One lucky kid was able to launch the rocket every 4 minutes!
Bringing Mission Control to Life
To make each kid feel like part of the team, I gave them roles like “Commander,” “Navigator,” or “Engineer.” Each child was assigned a role, and some even talked like real NASA engineers. They loved pressing buttons, flipping switches, and confirming their roles with “Launch, go!” or “Navigation, go!” responses during the countdown.
Adding the Final Launch Effects
For the Cyberrocket’s liftoff, I added sound effects and a countdown audio clip to build anticipation. We finished with a large fog machine to mimic rocket smoke, and everyone cheered as the CybeRocket “launched” into space.
Finishing Touches
I had a Tesla Model S and X MCU for kids to play Asteroids or look at where we were on Mars, making sure everyone left with a bit of the mission spirit.
This Mission Control station turned out to be an amazing way for kids to experience a fun, hands-on “launch” into space!
